I was told that the New York State birth registry will only reunite people if all three parties register, bmother, bfather and adoptee. The people at OLV and PACES suggested the International Soundex Registry (you can go on-line to get the registration form). I have done both plus registering with the agency's (OLV) registry. They also suggested submitting a form to the NY registry updating your medical history to be put in the adoptee's file. It is best if you can get a doctor to submit a letter with the history stating that it is accurate. I was told that often as adoptees get older they wonder about their medical history and check to see if anything has been added to their files. I also submitted the medical history to the agency's file. The next step is searching birth records, motor vehicle records, marriage certificates, death records, etc. A huge undertaking which will require lots of time and luck.
