Recently my parents filed for adoption of my neice and nephew, ages 6 and 5. The children's father has not seen the kids since my neice was 4 months old and my nephew was 1 day old. In court over child support, he said that he would rather turn his rights over to the state of Kentucky, than have to pay child supprt. My sister signed the consent allowing my parents to adopt the children, as did her ex husband. A week after signing all of the necessary paperwork, the grandmother from the father's side, decides she wants to file for visitation. The grandmother on the father's side has not wanted anything to do with my neice and nephew since my sister divorced their father, and has not seen them since they were infants. We had invited her into our home and even offered to meet her out somewhere so she could see the kids, but she refused because she sadi she did not like my family. Recently they went to court, but the judge did not know whether the grandmother could intervene with the adoption. My question to you is, Is there even grandparents rights in Kentucky and if so can she intervene with the adoption? Thank you for your time.
