Well I looked up info for you, and although I cant find how long you need to be married, your county court should be able to answer that...
If your ex consents to the adoption, then I dont see a real reason why you would need a lawyer....there is a form that he needs to sign saying that he consents....
run step parent adoption 'your county' MI through google and you should get all the info you need including a checklist.... (Im sure I saw checklists for most counties there....)
