I'm new to this board as well - also named Jen, from LI, 4+ years of TTC#1, and pursuing a domestic adoption!

I'm sorry to hear about your divorce - I imagine this must be very difficult for you. To answer your question, I would suggest going to the NYS Child and Family Services website where you can find a list of all voluntary adoption agencies licensed within the state of NY. As a NY resident, you will need to work with an agency with a licensed in NY, even if they are not located in NY. Or you could use a lawyer for a private adoption.

I found that by process of elimination, I came down to a much more manageable list that met my needs - crossing out all of those that only do international, special needs, older children, and those with a religious affiliation. After further researching my short list, I decided on Spence-Chapin in NYC. They offer a sliding scale, all expenses are included in their agency fee, and have never heard a bad word against them and lots of good stories. I believe that will work with singles. They have a domestic orientation session coming up in Aug and you will need to sign up quick if you want to go. They only offer it 2x per year and it fills up quickly.

I hope this helps! Lots of luck!
