Maybe doing what the previous post suggested. Congratulations by the way! When we found out I had ovarian cancer my husband also has the same problem you have. He couldnt figure out what to say to me in reference to how I had changed his life so much. My mother suggested practicing in the mirror to him. Then write what he told me in the mirror. the funny part was he would go in to take a shower and I would hear him talking, thinking he was talking to me. For a week I did this to him. Finally he got it all done and I have to tell you, whatever you say will come from your heart. He will know that. And putting it in words in a letter to him would be something that he would never ever forget. I am sure whatever you say to him--there isnt going to be a dry eye. God bless your family.
