Sierra Leone is now open for adoptions
This forum is completely dead. But, I thought I would put updated and accurate information here.
Sierra Leone reopened last January with new adoption laws. There are several adoption agencies now working in Sierra Leone. The time frame is anywhere from about 8-9 months to as much as 2 years, depending on the agency you are working with. But, adoptions are legal in Sierra Leone and they are processing again.
There are many, many orphans in Sierra Leone who desperately need families. The civil war has been over since 2001 and the country is rebuilding but it will take time. In addition to adopting, several of the adoption agencies have sponsorships for children that are not eligible for adoption but provide for basic needs and education. You would need only contact a reputable agency that is placing children from Sierra Leone and ask about the sponsorship programs.
