Talking to your children about pausing the adoption process

We have been involved in international adoption for almost two years with no success. We have a daughter who is 6 now. We have been preparing her for her new sibling all this time. And now we have stopped.

We are frozen in our tracks, not knowing what to do. But, our daughter and her friends ask when is he coming? How much longer?

For the past few months we have been telling her it has taken a lot longer than we expected. And we add that it is going to take a lot longer. We always try and add that we are disappointed it is taking so long, and she agrees.

Do we tell her the little truth we have now, or wait till we know our decision? My heart breaks for her, she has been so excited. I know children are resilliant but if the waiting stresses us, I'm sure it has effected her too.

Any advice?
