Hi,
I have used my Maya wrap the 3x I have been to Guatemala..it is nice because we did the newborn carry the first 2 times and this time did a front facing older baby carry. Next time I go we will try the hip carry. It is good for a weight of like 35 lbs..it also has a "tail" that you can swing over thier heads to protect from the hot sun. I also wanted the tail for discreet nursing. I also have the OTSBH and I find it too bulky and I feel restricted/claustrophobic! It has a beautifull 100% hand loomed Guatemaln fabric..It is cool and is a very nice pattern. Ana just loves it..she falls asleep when she is in it.
I had used a regular sling for our son,, and newest research shows that if the babies legs are kept that far apart it puts pressure on their backs/spine..the Maya does not do that.
There is a sling listed with "One step Ahead" that has a narrower crotch area, so there is less risk of pressure on the back and legs..they also have one that is specifically for older babies with the hip carry.they have a website.
Take care, Cathy
