have you received confirmation of his death? If you have an approximate age that he was at time of your birth use that and do a surname search on the Soc Sec Death Index. You should be able to get a date of death and last known address-possibly even another relative. Then you can use that to narrow down cemetaries and papers where an obit would be listed. Cemetaries very often hold addresses of relatives if they are paying for the upkeep of the site.
