Adopting older child - out of state

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. My husband and I have been waiting to adopt since we got married. Seven years later, we are still waiting.

He does have a 17 year old daughter who lives with us, and we have no other children.

We have pretty much given up on being matched with an infant, so we are expanding our age preferences and are now very interested in an 8 year old with moderate behavioral problems (temper tantrums).

She is in a neighboring state. I have spoken to her caseworker over the phone a couple of times, and she really seems to be interested in meeting us. As of right now she doesn't even have our homestudy. She should have it Wednesday (that's another story, our caseworker is incompetent).

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone knew how this worked from here once she gets our homestudy and wants us to meet the child. Do we go for a day trip to meet her? Do we do that a few times? Would she maybe come here for a weekend? Or does she meet us and say take her home (LOL mostly kidding about that one).

Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks so much!
