We just returned from Moscow on the 4th of July. We both wore a waist type belt to split the money. It was worn so you couldn't see it and only the pull tab of the zipper was metal, so not enough to set anything off. In our airport, they don't use those x-ray type machines yet, just the walk thru detectors.

Coming back from Moscow thru the DME airport they only used the x-ray type. But it didn't matter because we didn't wear the money belt on the return trip...not enough money coming home to make it worth the effort. I did think at the time that I was glad we weren't wearing it because I would THINK it would be noticeable on the x-ray machine. I would have found a bathroom or corner to take it off and put in my carry on if I had been wearing it just to avoid it altogether. But as others have said, that doesn't mean they wouldn't pull it from your luggage to be run separately.
