OT: "Why don't you cut her hair?"

Hello all,

I'm looking to find out others' experiences with this. Our daughter is almost 17 months old and biracial (black/white). Her hair is quite fine, and is a mass of long spirals and corkscrews. Combed out, it's about 7 or 8 inches long.

Both my mother-in-law and her sister have visited from overseas in the last few months, and have gently suggested that we cut her hair.

Anyone with a child who has hair like this understands that it won't always stay tamed, regardless of what products you use. I spend a lot of time doing her hair, and she looks really good, if I may say so myself! We always get compliments on her hair when we're out.

Would anyone cave and cut it, or trim it a little? I vowed not to cut her hair until who-knows-when (actually, the back is maybe 5 or 6 inches in length, and I'd rather wait until it's longer before doing anything with it). I think that if we had a son, I'd be more willing to pick up the scissors.

I'll put up this pic for a little while to show what I mean (we were on the beach here, so the breeze blew her hair around a bit.)

Thanks!
