You are dead wrong about forcing a child to eat certain condiments, such as hot sauce, not being against the law. Parents routinely lose custody of their kids here in California on the grounds of forcing them to ingest hot sauce (especially Tobasco Sauce), as well as cayenne pepper, black pepper, etc.

I don't think making your son eat liver is what triggered the investigation -- it was the hot sauce thing. That is considered child abuse in many states and localities.
