I'm so sorry to hear this. (Almost) cannot believe that some idiot would almost hurt a baby that way to prove his (or her) own ignorance.

We do consider where we vacation in terms of diversity. We've found a beautiful beach in Michigan that is diverse in terms of gay/lesbian couples there and we feel very accepted as an interracial family. It's just a wonderful place to go and we've never experienced any kind of racism there, as a matter of fact, folks go out of their way to make us comfortable as vacationers.

Find another place to vacation. NO ONE should have to deal with what you encountered. Just incredibly sad to me that so many Americans haven't "grown up" yet. I have friends born and raised in other countries who find what race a person is to be very low on the priority list of things to consider about an individual.
