Adjusting vacation spots?

So this is similar to Sugarandspice's thread above, kinda. We just returned from a much needed vacation, but it was definately not as stress free or restful as we had hoped. Things started out to great. S loved the beach, loved the sand and the pool..not a fan of the ocean yet. Father's day we go out to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner. We sat next to a family from our DD's birthfamily's hometown. I was so excited! It was so educational for me. I learned all sorts of great things about that cities culture and different ways we can celebrate as she gets older. They even asked us if her first family had a certain Native American tribe in their ancestry as they thought S's eyes favored them. And she does have a small bit of NA in her, but we didn't know the tribe. So to me that was really interesting too. Great time! So we leave and my MIL tells me we were being given dirty looks by some old woman at the next table, and she really just wanted to go punch her out! Which if you knew my MIL is totally out of character, and it was kind of endearing to me that she is so protective of our daughter. We brush it off as some old lady and go about our business. As the week goes on we notice we do continue to draw a few more dirty looks than at home and a few more comments around our resort, but we knew this would happen when we adopted transracially. What we didn't even think about is what happened on Tuesday morning.

We are at the pool and suddenly there's a huge splash and thud right next to S's head. She's screaming, about to jump out of my arms and I'm screaming for my husband. I look up and there are 2 people hanging over one of the top balconies and there's a huge chunk of melon floating next to our daughter. Some jerk had thrown this from 19-20 stories up. Note--there's a large awning you would have to throw something past to even get to the pool and she and I were the only people on that side of the pool at the time. Seriously someone had aimed at us. They could have killed my baby! I have never been so terrified in my entire life. I grabbed our daughter up, marched to the management office, fell on the way, busted up both knees and was completely hysterical to the poor guy. He said he was making a call immediately. I thought to 911. So we go up to the room, DH get's a shower quickly and dresses to go talk to the Management guy, couldn't find him and decides to go to that floor to kick some butt. Thankfully the guy is upstairs and they started searching rooms. Apparently the jerks who did it managed to check out before the manager got up there.

I would never think to watch for falling melon on vacation. I think we will have to go to a little higher class beach from now on. I am still sick to my stomach over the whole thing! 1-no one should ever try to harm a child 2-the resort should have called 911 and let them investigate it instead. UGH! I never in a million years would have imagined that scenerio happening to us. I'm so very thankful that God was protecting our little baby Tuesday. I have grown too comfortable where we live, that I wasn't on guard on vacation I guess for such a blatent act of racism, one that could have taken our daughter's life. But how could we have ever been prepared for that? How do you other TRA families research vacation spots? I've been to this place before and I wouldn't have thought it would be that bad? We live close to what used to be a very racist area, and we have not had 1 racist comment or dirty look when out with our daughter. So to be on a beach vacation and have this happen really just blew our minds.

The m/c's, the infertility, the waiting, the failed matches, it has all been worth it to have our beautiful baby S. She was meant to be ours we just had to wait for her to come along!
