Because we have a dog we also had to add a fence to keep her from running through the garden. That too would keep other animals from getting into the garden.

Not sure where you live but its never to late as long as you have a late fall. I kind of killed a few of my tomatoe plants recently and was not happy. So I just planted a few more to replace what I killed. It just means that I will spread out my produce from my garden longer. Just like you.
