Question Does agency need to be near home?

Hi. I am just starting the adoption process. We definitely want an international adoption, and so far Russian sounds the most appealing to us. I've searched online a bit for angencies. I have found one in our area that does Russian adoptions. St. Louis and Kansas City are a few hours away from me, but there are more options there. I'm wondering if it's common to travel to agencies. How many times would I physically have to be there? Would it be worth even looking out of state? I'm just so overwhelmed by this, and I want to make sure that I choose the right agency. How do I even know if an agency is good? Thank to you anyone who can help me.
