My dispassionate outsider's opinion, for what it's worth, is that I think kids deserve to know the truth of their own history, whatever it is.
That said, there's no reason to dump the whole story on a young child, so you'd have to find a way to gradually feed out the details as they're old enough to handle them.
I probably wouldn't allow contact with an underage child, and would advise an adult to proceed with caution before contacting the b-father.
