Just wondering if your friend could look into getting a Big Sister for A from the local big brothers/big sisters program. It seems she is interested in being older (texting teens and all that) and maybe a positive teen influence could help turn things around. That phone would be gone now - can't even imagine giving one to a 10 year old. Computers should be in a room where mom can see everything that goes on. OMG - my space at 10. Creepy. My kids are very monitored on all electronics and it's the first thing taken as consequences - therefore my kids know what a privilege it is. Ha - I just got my son's cell phone since he spouted off...I haven't turned it off yet, because I am getting ready to read all the text messages in there. (yes, I know he can delete bad ones...)
