The best thing I've learned so far is how to love the ones that come and go but keep my heart in a place that recognizes these are not my kids and they're not going to stay forever.
That and not to judge their parents for the issues they're dealing with - most of them anyway. I am still human after all and I do have my limits as far as what is completely reprehensible IMO.
Initially, just starting out, this is something I struggled with immensely and it made the process so much tougher to deal with.
