Karen, I haven't experienced that with our daughter, specifically to hair. But when we brought Cady home, and took her to the doctor, she was TERRIFIED of anyone in the doctor's office wearing a white coat. The phlebotomist was so nice, and yet, our daughter had to be held down by both myself and DH, and she still wriggled out of our arms....and that was before she tried to draw blood.
Fortunately, her doctor is a very young woman, and doesn't wear a white coat. You have the right idea of checking each other's head. That gives him the power. Recently, Cady went in to the doctor for her her Kindergarten shots (can you believe it??), and she has a doctors' kit that she took in to the doctors office, and gave the doctor a shot first. She was a trooper, and accepted all four shots without crying.
It's so hard not knowing what they went thru before they came home. But with love and patience and time, for the most part, they get over it, whatever it was.
