I don't know if we'll receive the amended BC before April 15th (long, discriminatory story). The SS website states that we need proof of citizenship, among other things - will the OBC be acceptable??

We were told specifically that you DO NOT need the amended birth certificate. But we were also told that they will ask for it and we should ask to speak to a supervisor if we are told that they can't issue a new SS# without one.
We will have our son's adoption decree, but it takes
15 MONTHS to get an amended birth certificate in our state. And we need to get a SS# quickly for David so that Elizabeth can add him to her health insurance. We were told that they may give us a hard time because this is not done often enough for everyone to be completely familiar with what is and is not absolutely required. But we CAN get a SS# just with the adoption decree, original birth certificate and immunization records.
We were told this by David's adoption social worker, who apparently has helped people deal with this a number of times since it takes so long to get the amended BC.
