Ughhh, I am sooo sorry! We've had our share of accidents so I can relate to a little of what you're going through.
I second the suggestion of having him seen tomorrow. My face/head went through glass when I was younger and I did have to go to the hospital. They were not able to get it all out of my forehead but on a positive note, what they couldn't get out worked its way to the surface (like a pimple) and came out on its own over the next few weeks.
If it makes you feel any better...we went to my brother and sister-in-law's annual Christmas party year before last, when my boys were 1 and 3...we had always taken the kids and they were very welcome even though they were the only kids there. Their house is not child-proof and of course, in a split second my oldest got ahold of an antique snow globe that my brother had given my sister-in-law their first Christmas together. Before I could intervene (I was right there with him) he picked it up and dropped it onto their glass table. It was like slow motion as I watched the glass shatter, the water and glitter and snow rushing out onto the table (which thankfully did not break) and onto their white carpet. Although he did not get hurt, the look on my sister-in-law's face crushed us. We ended up having what was left of it sent to a "snow-globe repairman" on the other side of the country and he repaired it masterfully, to my great relief...of all the things he could have broken in that house, that was probably the most valuable from a sentimental standpoint.
I know it's a nightmare right now but everything will be okay and your neighbor will get past it. The important thing of course is that E will be okay!
