TPR Process

We had our FD's permanency hearing yesterday. It was a little weird because we were in the building with her parents and we hadn't met them yet. We were actually sitting about 6 feet away from her dad and didn't know it. The supervising cw came up to us and started talking about the case (and her dad's issues) with him sitting next to us. That could have been really awkward. We asked to be introduced and he agreed. So he seemes like a very nice man who just made some mistakes. We went into the court room and her mom came in with her dad and their lawyers. We were allowed to make a statement and then we had to leave. I kind of liked getting to meet him because my opinion of him is different now then when he was this "bad" guy that I envisioned in my mind.

The outcome of the case was that they are moving it to the adoption unit. So now we begin the process of TPR. I know that the dad will appeal, not sure about the mom. I also think that the dad will name family members, but no one has seemed interested so far (12 months into the case). Does anyone have any information they can share about the process? How long can it take? What should we be doing if anything to move the process along?

Thanks.
