My son was a terrible teether and my dd is starting now.

Here's what helped for us:
Hyland's teething tables (we call them the Happy Pills!) are awesome.
Camillia drops work pretty good too.
Baltic Amber Teething necklaces - I didn't get one until my son was cutting his 2 year molars and it was sooooo rough for him. I got one and tried it and WOW! Now my daughter uses it.
