Adopting Grandson
I'd like to know if anyone has any information for Illinois. I became my grandson's legal guardian before he was born because my daughter was 17. After his birth, she abandoned on 4 separate occasions, got into alcohol and drugs and besically abused him and wanted nothing to do with him. He has lived with my husband and I since Day 1 of his life and has never lived anywhere else. Every time my daughter would walk away, she would remind me that I am legally responsible for him and that keeping him was a 'mistake'. I took this very seriously.
She got pregnant again, aborted and then got pregnant again in April 2006 and had my grand-daughter December 2006 and had married the dad who is 14 years older than her and has a drug history as well. He relapsed into drugs a year ago but is 'clean' right now.
I want to adopt him and let him have a complete family with us. What would I have to 'establish'? The dad would give up his rights with no problem.
