I have heard a lot of issue taken with the cost of adoption. Our "cost" included housing, food, care, and other services used by the mother. If the emom decides to parent, we do not pay twice, but the agency will. Because most of our agencies placements came from emoms, not children already born, it is frequently an unknown outcome in terms of placement. We preferred to know that our emom was in a stable environment for the latter part of her pregnancy, being taken to her appts etc. For us, we felt much more secure paying the agency, not the emom directly or through an attorney.
