I would just tell them it's a difference in age and country rules. All "big kids" start in kindergarten in the US. Will their ages make it a problem? Will they be turning 7 during K? As for what to tell the kids there - have them just say - we are starting in the same grade that US kids go to when they are 6 - if that works out age wise!
