Started Looking

Hi, my husband and I are just starting to look into the adoption process. I am 26 and he is 25. Adoption is something I have thought about since I was 12, before I found out that I have PCOS. We have not tried any fertility treatments, we may in the future but it does not matter to us if our child is biologically ours or not.
I really don't know what is the "right" way to try and adopt. We would like a total of 4 children, the first being a newborn and after that we are open to a child who is up to 5 years of age. I really feel like I "need" to experience the infant phase. We are open to any race, gender, and some special needs. We don't care if it is a domestic adoption or international.
My husband is very leery about open or semi open adoption, namely because neither one of us understand how they work. He is afraid that the birth parents would not be "reasonable".
If anyone has done an open or semi open adoption I would love to hear how the boundries are set and what most birthparents would want in an open adoption.
We welcome any advice that could help us move through the adoption process smoothly. I feel completely like a fish out of water, I am nervous, scared, and worried that I will do something that will make it more difficult to adopt a child.
Thanks for reading my rambling
Nicole
