I think this is a stage. When my brothers were about four they got their first bunkbeds. They were jazzed to say the least.
It was a big boy thing but also my Mom's idea to get them to sleep in their own beds....didn't work. They still both ended up in the top bunk. And since that's where Dad started the bedtime stories, I always ended up sleeping in the bottom bunk. (I was 6). So for about a year, we all shared one room. Definitely not what my Mom intended.
But there was no harm in it and everyone was happy. Eventually I went back to my own room for my own story time and my brothers decided they wanted their own beds after all.
However, if getting your little guy to sleep in his room is an absolute must, I like the idea of the tent. That would've been enough to get us to sleep just about anywhere my parents wanted.
