Governor Ronald Reagan
It's interesting that you would choose to quote Ronald Reagan about abortion. It just seems a bit ironic to me that when he was Governor of California, he signed into law the Therapeutic Abortion Act of 1967. This was six years before the infamous Roe v. Wade decision.
If you talk to anyone who came of age before Roe v. Wade, you'll discover that abortion was always an option, just not a legal one. It has been practiced in some form ever since the dawn of time. When my 16-year-old mother became pregnant with me in 1954, she was offered an illegal abortion as an alternative. She and my dad turned down my great-aunt's offer. But my mom's best friend, the daughter of a judge in Pasadena who became pregnant at the same time, underwent the procedure. Illegal abortions were performed daily in this country, with some horrendous results.
I hope no one ever has to witness the results of a botched abortion. Many years ago, I took care of a woman who had gone to a midwife for an illegal abortion. She and her husband were poor and couldn't afford a doctor. Long story short...she died of a raging uterine infection about a week later. It was a painful, horrible, lingering death...something I hope to God to never witness again in my lifetime.
