Ok...as a parent and a principal...here goes: Your son has the legal right to be in school and not be in physical danger. a prinicipal can be held legally accountable for not protecting your son's physical safety. That being said, sometimes the scope of what the principal can do can be very limited by various and sundry practices, codes, etc. The principal is also not allowed to tell you what, if any, consequences were given to the other child. My usual statement to parents is that appropriate measures have been taken, and that more stringent measures will be taken if there is a repeat performance. Your district should have a complaint procedure if you don't find your principal responsive. Any help?
