Melissa, I agree. If someone has an opportunity to visit the orphanage, they should. It's so important, I think, for closure. Being able to see the person that took care of my daughter, and to thank her personally was a huge healing process for me (with losing her first 17 months of her life). It was also (Im sure) extremely important to her nanny to be able to say goodbye. And although my daughter was too young to realize it then, it will be invaluable for her future. We videotaped our meeting with her nanny, and I'm sure it will help our daughter when she is trying to piece together her past.
We really felt we owed it to our daughter, and to the person that had taken care of her for so long.
We hope to go back to the same SWI to greet them, when we go back to China for our second daughter.
