I've responded with "Do you mean her birthmother? She is in Guatemala. I am their mother." That usually redirects people..... Most people mean no harm.... they just don't know the correct terminology. I'm with Carolyn.... I'm sure at some time or another I was guilty of saying some of those same things. Now, I just try to educate people as nicely as possible. Sometimes I don't feel like it and am shorter and walk away......
