I think it is irresponsible for us to think that teenagers are "being taught" or "know about " pregnancies and STDs. The reality is that they don't know. They know the limited amount of information that is being taught to them through movies, media, and friends. They are believing ridiculous myths and rumors. They need hard cold facts. Their beliefs need to be explored and debunked It is amazing how many teens and young adults believe that you can't get pregnant if they have sex in water, or the first time they have sex, or if they if they are breastfeeding. I know kids who are now raising children, experienced adoption, or had an abortion because nobody bothered to tell them that the "fact" they heard was actually a myth. You want abstinance? Great!!! In order to make that happen you must have sex education so that understand the reality instead of rumors and gossip. And don't assume the schools are teaching it -- parents must. And don't assume the parents are teaching it -- the schools must. It is a life skill that everybody needs and most people hope someone else is teaching.
