Hi Dee. I am so sorry for the news of the doctor visit. I have taught special ed for nearly ten years and have taught many students with autism. There is a wide range on the autism spectrum (it is a spectrum ranging from severe to very mild forms) The one common denominator in success is early intervention. It is good your doctor wants to be aggressive and rule it out before waiting to see if it gets better as he has more time to adjust. Students are making wonderful strides with intervention. Please know you will be in my thoughts and I hope it is just a matter of Jesse adjusting to his new environment. It must be really tough to go to all new language, smells, sights, and sounds overnight. Know that we are here for you.
Take care,
Amy
