Stormster...machine washable is great!! But, I find when you have those little ones that LOVE to spit their food out and blow raspberries with green beans...it's wonderful to have something that wipes off. The ones I have are the nice vinyl kind, sorta soft like..not hard, icky plastic. The one I have is also machine washable....but not all are, so you may want to check that out.
