We include ours with my family description because I was talking about the diversity (through adoption and marriage) of my family and how that diversity added to our family. The specific words I used were.
"Diversity and adoption are a large part of my family life. My family greatly enjoys the added cultural aspects that each member brings to our gatherings. I have cousins that are Asian and Hispanic and my family has welcomed through marriage, members that are South American and Middle Eastern. We value their heritage as our own and would welcome, with our families, a child of any race into our home."
If you were selecting only certain races, I don't know how to put it honestly. For gender selection, you could note things about looking for a princess or wanting a little boy to throw a football with I guess.
