They are not the same.

With death, there is a finality. It is done. It is over. You will never see that person again.
With adoption there is no finality. Especially when you had a closed or in other cases the "open" adoption was closed on you. There is always wonder, questions, the search, the hope for an outcome. You don't get that in death.
