All I can do is to assure you that parents (birth or adoptive) are usually stronger than we give them credit for. (I do respect the fact that you know your own limits, BTW.)
You don't know what her hopes and desires were for a relationship with you. She may be afraid to relax and believe how much you care because of how much it would hurt is she is wrong. My advice is to continue to be there, regardless of her response until she believes you are in her life to stay.
