Depending on their ages, it could be helpful to do things like take them into the kitchen and point to things and say "milk" and see what they say it is. We had a 2 yr old for a weekend who spoke Spanish and by day 2 we could communicate pretty well. It shouldn't take long for you to figure out their speech patterns.
