I am not a social worker, but I used to work on a child/adolescent locked psychiatric unit and am hoping to adopt a girl who I met when she was a patient there. I know that if I were still working at that facility I would not be allowed to adopt a former patient and continue working there (especially if it were within two years of her discharge). Each agency should have an official policy regarding this type of thing, and there may also be ethical standards within the social work field that would apply.
