My agency has always supported doing what is age appropriate.
Forgetting their hat and it's freezing but they are 2nd grade or younger... I'd put a hat on them and pin a note to their jacket to remind them and the teacher to send it home.
Forgetting their hat and it's freezing but they are 17yrs... let 'em freeze their ears.
C was told the other night it was time to eat. By the time he left the PS2 to come eat the items he really liked were gone and all that was left was things that he doesn't really want... you know, like green beans. He pitched a fit, was asking to make something else like a Hot Pocket. He was told "no". The consequence for not coming to the table until 15minutes after being told.
This past winter I had a girl refuse to wear a coat because she was "too cool". When school was over she called complaining it was so cold (BOY.... it was too!) and wanted me to drive over to pick her up instead of walking the 4 blocks to my work. I told her "no" then called everyone in the order she would have called alerting them all they are not to give her a ride, which included her worker. They all agreed. Next day... she wore the coat.
C refuses to wear a coat too... but he's so hot blooded in the winter we close all the heating vents in his room and he cracks a window. He loves it cold as a meat locker!
Whenever I have a consequence with a child that might be questioned by the school, child, or their parent I send a quick email or call to the worker letting them know what transpired. I've never been unreasonable and the workers have always agreed.
It's kinda funny how cw give the bparents plenty of opportunity to do stupid things without any further consequence but they expect the children to learn natural consequences for actions.
