You would have to comply with all of the adoption laws of your own country and of Mexico. In addition, you would have to comply with the laws of the particular Mexican state in which the child is residing. Moreover, if your country has any immigration laws concerning adopted children, you would have to comply with those laws. Some of these laws "may" differentiate between relative and non-relative adoptions, but most will not.

Obviously, you would not have to comply with any orphanage rules. You would have to use an adoption agency ONLY if your country or Mexico requires it; however, you would need a homestudy conducted in your country by a provider authorized to do them.

Protecting vulnerable children is important to all countries. As a result, there are usually lots of requirements that must be satisfied before a child can be placed with new parents, whether or not they are related.
