Like everything else in foster care, the answer to this is it depends. In our state we had the homestudy visits (one study, several visits), then we needed to be fingerprinted and that was sent to the FBI, so we had to wait on that to be returned. Then we had to have our health and safety inspections. All of our kids had to be interviewed. We had to get CPR certified. We had all kinds of updates on pet vaccinations. The folks who gave us references had to submit their paperwork, and in the midst of all of that our pastor passed away from cancer and my MIL came to stay for the summer. After the homestudy the worker has to type up the study and it gets presented to the agency for approval. For us, it took 5 months.
On the other hand, some friends from our PRIDE class who were seeking adoption had everything completed and had found their daughter within 2 months of the class.
It's not about how long it takes, although it feels like it at the time. It's just about what needs to happen to make sure everything is right.
