Hi, friends. I know there are weightier things to discuss, but I want to share.

A week or so ago, one of our forum friends asked what on earth her daughters should get their dad (who has everything) for Fathers' Day. Amongst the serious (and helpful) replies from other writers, I wryly observed, "Easy. An Old Spice gift collection."

My thinking was that no father ever has or will get anything that he wants for Fathers' Day and that the Old Spice collection would be a good lesson for her husband in that it would have to be the best gift ever and the most important thing he'd ever gotten. The real gift being the gift of being a good and thankful father.

Well, what goes around comes around. I was talking on the phone to my six year old son this noon. He could not contain his glee. He and the nanny were wrapping my Fathers' Day present-- a tie!

LOL, I have spent my entire career getting to a city and into a law firm where I almost never wear ties. If I never saw another one, I would be happy, and I firmly believe they are only appropriate for a wedding, a funeral or a bowl of soup.

Of course, I will wear my tie proudly to church on Sunday. It will be the best present I will ever have received, and I will brag proudly of it to my fellow congregants. Monday, I will wear it to work and tell everyone gratefully from where it came.

I just hope it doesn't look like the orange shoes that I got for my birthday because the nanny noted that my brown shoes were a little shabby!

Anyway, happy Fathers' Day to all the dads out there and all you single moms who have to play both roles.
Bob
