My advice is as follows......since we recently went through a short notice kind of adoption too I had similar fears.....

Don't rush out and buy everything. Buy a package of diapers.....not multiple.....because you may decide that you don't like that brand and you may be stuck with a whole lot of diapers you don't like. We bought a small package of 2 or 3 kinds to try them out and figure out which we liked best.

Same goes for bottles......buy just a couple of each kind until you figure out which type work best for your baby. We ended up with about 2 dozen regular bottles that we can't use because she gets too much air and thus an upset tummy. We had to go and buy all new bottles.

Don't go crazy with buying clothes as you never know how big the baby is going to be and you don't want to buy something that maybe too small. I had some items that she never got to wear as she was too big for them right from the start. Plus if you have a "baby party" friends & coworkers love to buy cute clothes for the baby. I also had several coworkers that have babies the right ages for hand-me downs.

Best of luck to you
