Benign fibroid tumors are quite common - I had one a few years ago and had it removed. My understanding is that it's always good to remove even benign tumors so that they don't become something else eventually, but I am SO not a health care expert so don't trust a word I say.
I know how stressful this is - I'm looking forward to your coming back and reporting that everything is OK.
