Yes he is getting bigger...well taller...still a super skinny guy though. His sn K will be through the school district...we are very lucky that our 'home' elementary school is great. Our district is huge and the quality of the schools varies greatly. He will be in a self contained sn classroom setting...multi-age K/1. It is called a VE class (varying exceptionalities) and it is for the higher functioning kids who are not either profoundly impacted or ready for a typical classroom setting...the eventual goal is to transition into a typical classroom.
It is much smaller and there will be at least one room aide...in fact it is very similiar to his pre-K program. His teacher has been transitioning him for over a month already...he knows who his teacher is and they speak almost daily (even if it is just hello.) I am thrilled with the pre-K program...it is language based and they do tons of sensory work...so perfect for him.
That being said...it is not perfect and we are now getting private OT and ST (we are #1 on the wait list for ST.) He just gets ST twice a week at school...not OT which is crazy and I will be fighting for it to be added into his IEP is August. His teacher is very strict and sometimes I disagree with her...but I also tend to baby him too much...and DS loves her and the class so I guess he's OK with it. She really pushes them...
So long winded answer is yes I am happy with our public school experience but I know we are very lucky and probably would have a different answer if our 'home' elementary school was different. (The teachers have to agree to work at this particular school...and there is some things they must vote on to include in the contract...they work longer and harder here...and deal with highly involved parents.)
Congrats on Clair's finalization and Baptism...too bad we are so far apart...a joint party would be great.
