We decided to pursue adoption in part because we heard about the tax credit - we really felt it was out of our league, financially, until we heard about this. That said, we would continue to try to adopt if the credit were repealed or not renewed (if we're still waiting by then!). Having to come up with the money up-front, we've realized that the credit would make it easier for us to pay back what we must borrow, but that we *could* pay it back without the credit.

It would probably affect our ability to adopt a second time, but who knows what our financial status will be by then - maybe we'll be in a position to better afford it.

Regarding "footing the bill for everyone else" - I don't have any desire to get into a debate about it, so suffice it to say that I see things differently than that. But I did want to point out that when I avail myself of this credit, others are "footing the bill" for me - and I'm very grateful that so many are willing to do that so that people like me can become parents.
